James Leo Poindexter on September 29, 1943, was born in Harlan County, Kentucky in a small coal mining camp called Mary Helen. he then moved at a young age to another camp to live with his grand parents in Crumis, Kentucky. He grew up and moved to Detriot, Michigan, where his music came to life in him. He started to play music in most every club around the area. His inspirations include Hank Williams, Sr., Waylon Jennings, and Merle Haggard which is exemplified through his music. He began playing music at the age of 12 years of age and he does a vartiety of music including country and gospel.
